What you might be asking about Twitter

by Lorna on March 6, 2008

I have been trying to tell some colleagues about the benefits of using twitter and cannot do it better than this excellent post over at clifsnotes. If you think I have gone to the birds ( I know terrible pun) then let me tell you what I posted as a comment on clifsnotes and a shining example of the value of twitter.
My comment read:

I am in the process of trying to explain how twitter can be used for professional development and specifically providing support for teachers and parent interactions. I was in the middle of writing my own blog post when I saw a twit about your blog by @cgseibel and hoped over here. I was so impressed with your complete and easy to understand explanation of the value of twitter. Thanks for sharing your insights. I will be sharing your post with folks in by blog.

Here is what I clifsnotes said:

There is value in the networking and real-time interaction that you can get using Twitter. Many educators and academics find this to be an effective strategy for dealing with the isolation that can come from working in the classroom or office. Imagine encountering technical difficulties during your lesson and having a means of receiving assistance within minutes. Consider the ability to receive assistance from others during a teachable moment in which you don’t know the answer to a student’s inquiry. Individuals like @nlowell, @sbrandt, and @room214 have provided me with much needed real-time assistance.

I’m glad that the word on Twitter is getting out. It may not be for everyone (what tool is?) but I do think that many will find it to be a valuable networking tool. Remember, you’re Twitter experience will be what you make it.

I’m glad that we’ve gotten connected, admin. I’d like to follow your Twitter. Please let me know who you are. :)
