by Lorna on March 13, 2008

Parents as Partners again promotes parent involvement and this week we welcome Jacqui Strachan from People for Education. Jacqui is the mother of two sons, one in grade 9 and one in grade 6. A former lawyer, she became involved in People for Education nine years ago, when her oldest son was in kindergarten. For the last six years, Jacqui has worked full time at People for Education, speaking to parent and education groups and providing telephone and email support to parents across the province. As the Parent Inclusion Coordinator, Jacqui helps to develop multi-lingual tip sheets for parents, coordinates a network of parents and community agencies around the province, and runs workshops to help engage parents in their children’s education

People for Education is a parents’ organization working to support public education in Ontario’s English, French and Catholic schools. They publish a bi-monthly newsletter distributed to every school in Ontario and 6,000 individuals, produce annual reports on programs and resources in Ontario’s public schools, and they maintain an informative website. The organization also provides support, information and training for parents, publishes multi-lingual information bulletins and holds an annual conference focused on education issues.
