Lidia Goodman from Dysart Unified School District in Surprise Arizona is using Ustream TV to help her students practice their reading skills. Parents are given a wonderful opportunity to see their chiild “performing”. Lidia’s students not only reinforce their reading skills in their ustream theatre, but also learn how to embrace technology as an every day experience in the classroom. Ustream TV is a free streaming/webcasting service supported by commercial advertising. Free services have their implications, however, the possibilities for connecting parents to the classroom are endless.
On Monday April 20, 2009 at 9:00 PM EDT (GMT-4) Lidia along with Laurie King, Technology Coordinator for the Dysart Unified School District will join us on Parents as Partners to share how they support their students and connect with parents using technology.
Check out their website for a quick look at the process. On the main page >District Videos > Video storytelling.
You can watch the students perform at their ustream channel/theatre. Scroll down the page past the ads and you will find the video clips of the students.
I have to share Laurie’s and her staff vision on IT with the Magical IT fairies. That is such a great indicator of the leadership in technology at Dysart Unified School District.
