Over the past few months I have written several posts about Facebook and its use as a way to connect parents to the classroom. I face the ever constant rejection of this social networking tool with a often adamant expression.” I absolutely will not allow my student – my child to use Facebook.”
A good friend of mine- name to remain unknown – finally said; ” my daughter is going to high school next year, maybe it is time for me to learn something about Facebook so that I can be ready”.
I know for sure that she is not the only one who maybe in that position so with that in mind, I petitioned Steve Hargadon over at www.classroom20.com for his support in using the Elluminate virtual classroom we use for Live Conversations. It is my hope that if more people could see what it looks like to have a Facebook profile they would be better equipped to support their children in the digital world in which their children are growing up. I’m pretty excited to tell you that we have scheduled a hands on session using a platform that would allow people to actually see what a Facebook profile looks like without signing up for a Facebook account.
Please mark February 23, 2009 at 8:00 PM EST (GMT-5) and join us in a free session in a virtual classroom.
This is the link to the classroom. https://sas.elluminate.com/m.jnlp?sid=2008350&password=M.612F85D6F8C95E7398CA7C70EEFFB2

Would you mind sharing your thoughts now. Those of you who use Facebook. Tell us why and those who don’t tell us why.

Facebook is a government plot to spy on people and collect data from them. Parents should encourage kids to use fake names, and not put any incriminating data about themselves. And above all no pictures in which you are doing something illegal or embarrassing. But that goes for anywhere on the Internet.
